I firmly believe you deserve to live your best life. A life that includes joy, confidence, understanding of yourself and others, inner peace and thriving, not just surviving, in the face of life's challenges. My goal is to help you achieve that. As your therapist, I will truly listen and work with you to understand what's inhibiting your ideal life, career or relationships and together we'll create new ways of seeing challenges and learning healthier ways of meeting them. I greatly enjoy and have had success working with individuals, teens and couples over 8 years of practice. I specialize in traditional humanistic & insight oriented psychotherapy but use a variety of therapy techniques for successful treatment. I have a strong background treating anxiety related issues, depression, PTSD, and interpersonal relationship problems and specialize in helping people establish healthy boundaries and navigate "toxic relationships." I feel a warm, relational approach is always beneficial in a therapeutic process. My goal is to create an environment in which clients feel good about sharing thoughts and feelings in the pursuit of their goals and our therapy will reflect that. Self awareness, confidence and better mental health awaits!
I believe in providing a safe and non-judgmental environment for counseling my clients. Without the feeling of safety and not being judged, it is difficult, if not impossible to build the necessary trust and rapport to make therapy effective. I believe in a collaborative, customized and multidimensional approach to therapy with each client. I have experience in helping clients with suicidal idealization and self-harm, sexual orientation and sexual identity, gender issues, personal and professional relationship challenges, emotional regulation, stress, anxiety, and depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse and LGBT issues. I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development majoring in Psychology from Central Michigan University (CMU) and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Michigan School of Professional Psychology (MISPP). I was a leader for the Psychology Connection at the CMU Global Campuses and am certified in Case Management from Wayne County Community College. My education and numerous certifications have well prepared me in understanding many of the skills, strategies and methods needed to assist those in their life challenges. Recent work and volunteer experience includes the Macomb County Crisis Center, Heartland Hospice and working with the Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb County area LGBT community focusing on transgender issues. I consider myself a life-long learner am currently attending a certification program in Substance Abuse and Addiction studies at University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan. I have served on the planning committees for Motor City Pride Detroit, World AIDS Day Detroit, and the One Campaign. I am an active member of the American Psychological Association's divisions 1, 30, 32, 44 & 51 and the Michigan Psychological Association. The single most important factor in successful psychotherapy is the relationship between patient and therapist; effective therapy starts from the moment you walk in the door. If you feel unsure, please call and talk with me about setting up your first appointment. You need a therapist who will listen, work with you to attain your goals and be supportive and patient. I work with a diverse clientele of individuals and couples on grief/bereavement, depression, life change, conflict resolution, childhood and adult trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual abuse, anxiety, substance abuse and sexuality issues (LGBTQ). Emotional growth, recovery, self-awareness and a healthier, more balanced life are just some of the possible outcomes available if you set your mental health as a priority. I believe it is never too late to learn to be comfortable with yourself, learn to embrace your value and work to improve aspects of your life.
I bring a person centered approach while providing a safe non-judgmental space for helping my clients to develop the tools and skills that will allow them to embrace their individuality, as well as work towards realizing their full potential. I have experience working with diverse populations including African American, Native American, Latino, Women, LBGT, adolescents, families and veterans in individual and group settings. I am available to help clients with who are concerned with life transitional issues who are concerned with depression, grief/loss, anxiety, additive behaviors, anger management, sexuality, relationship problems, immigration, acculturation, problem solving, stress reduction and work-life balance issues. I see clients based on their ability to pay in both Royal Oak and Farmington offices.
I believe that one of the most important parts of therapy is establishing a safe, empathic, honest, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. This relationship serves to provide a collaborative environment in order to more effectively help clients reach their personal goals. I understand that no two people have the same experiences or backgrounds. I strive to promote in clients a deeper understanding and insight into their own experiences, thoughts, and behaviors so that they can live happier, more fulfilled lives. I have my MA degree in Clinical Psychology and am supervised by a Licensed Psychologist - Dr. Linda Schonberg, PsyD, LP. and Dr. Stephanie Williams, Ph.D., LP. I have had experience treating a number of behavioral health issues, including criminal behavior, anxiety, depression, PTSD (etc), and have also had experience helping clients deal with grief and loss, parenting issues, self-sabotage, chronic pain, and others. I also have experience treating clients with traumatic brain injuries. Finally, I believe that healing occurs through a combination of intra-personal and relational processes that encourage increased self-awareness, honesty, authenticity, self-love, acceptance, and a balanced mind-body-spirit relationship. I utilize a combination of approaches and techniques tailored to each client's needs, desires, background, and goals. Ms. Perraut sees clients in our Plymouth and Royal Oak office locations.
To err is human, and life challenges are fundamental rites of passage extended to us all. What differs from person to person is the frequency, intensity, and significance of these experiences, and level of personal resources needed for one to cope as a result. Research tells us that struggling to find energy, mobilize efforts, and persist at tasks are both normal and understandable aspects to the change process. With clinical expertise in motivational interviewing and stage wise practices, I apply research based interventions that empower you to choose a course of action and gain control over your motivation to change. I specialize in areas of early intervention, substance use disorders, and dual diagnosis, with a considerable background of working with adolescent, family, and adult populations across a continuum of severity and needs including issues related to adjustment, aggression, sexuality, relationships, identity, personality, self-injury, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Parallel to my clinical work is my commitment to learning, teaching, and advocating for stigmatized treatment populations in the community. You are the expert of your own life and I look forward to the opportunity of assisting you to make decisions for the next phase of your journey. Be well.
My priority is to sit on your lap and comfort you during your session. I love people and treats.
Stephanie did everything to support me through a tremendously difficult time in my life and I'm deeply grateful for that. She is compassionate and cares very much for your well-being.
A Light Among the Bleak Landscape
After seeing a few different therapists over the years, I have finally found a place that gets me. A place where I seek refuge during the worst times of my life. I can feel comfortable and trust that Dr. Stephanie is knowledgeable, patient, and caring enough to help. I would not recommend anyone more highly in any field, let alone psychology. Walking into her office was the best step towards a positive future I could have ever made! Thank you Dr.!
A transforming experience
Dr. Stephanie was amazing to work with. This was not my first time in therapy, and the transformation that I experienced was amazing. I have more respect for myself, am teaching others how I want to be treated, and I am following my passion. No more doormat behavior here!
